Making alcohol? Am I making wine, beer or rum? And is it safe?
So I managed to do a little wine very bitter, and I'm on my next project alcoholic. For now I am using baker's yeast, but the plan for the wine yeast soon before I make mead. I added a relatively large amount of maple syrup for a relatively large amount of water (2 liters total). I also added a cup of sugar 1 / 2. The yeast does not react as he did with the wine. I was leaving my 2 bottles litter open to allow air in. When I put my ear to the opening, I can not hear the crackling sound, like I did it with wine. The security part: some of the top, which forms foam is black. It looks a bit like mildew, but I thought it might be the darker color of the syrup. In any case, is it safe to drink when I siphon from the top to filter the yeast at the end? Is there a way to make it safe for sure. Should I add more sugar, to make more alcohol and increase the%. Other suggestions are welcome because I really do not want to start again.
Not sure what you do. Most conservatives maple syrups, which will not allow real fermentation takes place. Requires rum distilling, and unless you have a rest, it will not happen. Technically, when making wine, you want an airtight container with an airlock allowing the release of CO2, without letting the air in. bad when the air is making wine. I would not drink it. If you do I think would make you vomit.
